Roger Bobley had been a retired book publisher and editor, living in Margaretville, New York for nearly ten years, when he decided to make a documentary about small-town life in the northern Catskills. This led to his founding of Snowy Roof Productions, LLC.
For twenty-five years, Roger had served as the Creative Director of Bobley-Harmann Publishing and Marketing Company of Woodbury, Long Island. In that capacity, he compiled and edited books on a myriad of subjects, from motorcycles to tropical fish, from U.S. presidents to popular music. And for fifteen of those years, he was also the Editor-in-Chief of Illustrated World Encyclopedia.
Prior to entering the publishing field, Roger had been an assistant film editor and stop-motion cinematographer for TV Graphics, a Manhattan production company. He is musically inclined, having played the piano by ear since the age of four, and has had a serious interest in writing and photography since the age of eight. As a teenager, he shot and edited his own 16mm movies, including an award-winning stop-motion film on dinosaurs, which he sculpted out of clay, years before the invention of "claymation."
In 1994, he moved with his English-teacher wife, Carol, to Margaretville, where he spent several years writing screenplays and taking photographs. Some of his photos have been exhibited at the Hunting Tavern Museum in Andes, New York and at the Catskill Rural AIDS Services Annual Art Auction in Roxbury, New York.
